Devils Backbone Pinot Gris 2018 Case

$280.00

The Devils Backbone Pinot Gris is richly fruited and generously textured. This flavoursome wine is filled with tropical fruit, nectarine, poached pear and exotic floral characters.

The palate delivers excellent concentration and  a silkiness that is brilliantly supported by juicy acidity. It is immediately appealing and ideally suited to partner summer salads or mild spicy dishes. Whole bunch pressing over five hours to maintain flavor intensity was a crucial step in the winemaking process. The wine was cool-fermented over two weeks in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. No malolactic occurred during the winemaking process. The purity of the fruit allowed for the wine to be bottled without fining, harnessing the full and true flavour of our high quality grapes. The wine was stabilised and sterile filtered prior to bottling.

About the Winemaker.

The son of wine-growing pioneers William and Gillian, David was literally born on the Home Block, and has wine in his veins. Growing up he helped his parents out in the early years of planting vineyards on the Dunstan Road site.

Studying winemaking through EIT in Hawkes Bay, he began making wine in 1997 and has worked with a number of highly skilled winemakers from around the world over the years.

Dave was a finalist in the New Zealand Winemaker of the Year awards in 2005, and has been steadily collecting awards since. In 2018, the Shaky Bridge Pioneer Series Pinot Noir won New Worlds Champion Pinot Noir & Champion Red Wine in their annual competition with an overall 96 points.

Davids philosophy on winemaking stems from his belief that the best wines are crafted by allowing the wines to speak for themselves.
